This website is a virtual mausoleum of a short lived movement that
took place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2005 when 2 party girls, a
computer wiz and a graphic designer teamed up with countless NYC
residents, activists, musicians and a couple politicians to fight for
and preserve the creativity and diversity of the Williamsburg
community against the city's looming plan to rezone our neighborhood
into a monoculture of luxury high-rises and starbucks.
The website hasnt been changed since the dreaded vote in May 2005,
though the neighborhood dramatically has.
The Warriors would like to thank everyone who volunteered time,
energy, and talent during that time and to remind you that your
efforts were not in vain- as much as the landscape of our
neighborhood has changed, the landscape of your character should only
be re-affirmed by your efforts: once a warrior, always a warrior.

WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE WILLIAMSBURG WARRIORS!!!

Just after Monday April 4th's press conference and hearing on the Williamsburg/ Greenpoint Rezoning at City Hall, the Williamsburg Warriors, members of the Williamsburg Creative Coalition, re-annointed themselves with the power of their holy healing blade in special rite of passage ceremony celebrating what has already been achieved in their community's battle. They have witnessed the voices of an inspired people. They have felt the vibrant heart of their community and the communities around them. They have mirrored the many faces that show the power to make great change in this world and have heard the visionary plans of the citizens to create and exemplify model sustainable communities the universe over!
In closure to the blade healing ceremony, the warriors made a pilgrimage to the dark cave of the owl to submit this request : Show Us Greatness!
And the owl gave them response:
"You must hold a series of events for the people of NYC to celebrate their unity and shared vision of responsible development for sustainable communities.
Deem it "The No Supersize Series."
After recieving this super challeng-a-riffic mandate of the great owl, the warriors have used the power of the interweb to consult the wisest elders of many communities around the city of NY and pull together this list of events(click to see)

The Williamsburg Warriors were founded after discovering that most of the kids we knew and partied with here in Williamsburg have no idea what dastardly plans the developers have in store for the waterfront and surrounding terrain. First off, forty-story towers of "luxury" condo towers, a promenade on the water that wouldn't be 24-hour accessible by the public, far less open space than influx of new residents, an increase in the already skyrocketing housing costs, rezoning of the surrounding neighborhood so all the charming two and three story structures get bought, torn down, and replaced by 12 story monstrosities(have you seen the "finger" buildings that have already begun to break our ground?, the list goes on and on. And the only reason they're getting away with it is that we, the citizens, have not cared to be informed or involved enough in our community. Instead of running from hipsterville to hipsterville, once they become over-developed, expensive and homogenized, this is our chance to fight back. We can stop the historical low-income to artist to homogenized richies at the water. That's SOHO, that's Battery Park City, it doesn't have to be us. It can't be us. We are fortunate. Marty Markovitz, the Borough President of Brooklyn, is more-or-less on our side. He believes in the beauty, creativity and uniqueness of brooklynites and realizes this is one of Brooklyn's most valuable strengths. He can be convinced. But we need to sway our city councilmembers. We need to sway every city council member.Make them realize what a special place this is, and how fragile it's symbiotic interrelationships are. Don't let the towers block our light. So let's dance and sing and pound on whatever's near and spread the message that we will not let this piece of something special go the way of greed. Mixed neighborhoods make better dance parties. Community gardens, open space, light, sustainable architecture,and affordable housing make better neighborhoods. It is possible. There's still hope. Tell your friends. Tell your neighbors. Invite them to dance.
