This Just In:

Local nieghborhood leader, Mark Borino, found these quotes about subway by people responding to the author of Fast Food Nation's take on the franchise:
http://mark.stosberg.com/Ideas/Book_Reviews/fast-food-nation.html
"The book reports that Subway currently has some of the worst
franchising practicies-- They had the lowest franchising fee of the
major chains and took one the highest percentage of profits. "Dean
Sager, a former staff economist for the U.S. House of Representative's
Small Business Committee, has called Subway the "worst" franchise in
America. "Subway is the biggest problem in franchising," Sager told
Fortune magazine in 1998, "and emerges as one of the key examples of
every [franchise] above you can think of."" For example, in 1996, 109
new Subways relied on money from the U.S. government's Small Business
Administration for financing. It would be nice if multi-million dollar
transnational corporations felt they could get by without using
tax-payer money earmarked for small businesses. Perhaps I should be
extending my boycott one chain further.."

this is a quote from another review of FFN:

"Also dishearting, so to speak, in FFN was the chapter on Subway,
while their food is better for you than most chains, their franchise
system is basically a pyramid scheme. So when you win, you still
lose."

What does this mean? so far it means: we might like the owner, and the food is better than most fast food, but the corporation exhibits bad form towards their own franchise owners. It could also mean that after the neighborhood allows a Subway to move in, and McDonalds decides to open on N6 and Bedford (hypethetical) there could possibly be even more people saying "well, Subway is already here, what's the difference?" than are currently saying "well Tast-i delight is already here, whats the difference?" Where and when should a community draw the line?

ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17, WARRIOR ALLY, RANDALL, HELPED WARRIOR EVE CRAFT A SERIES OF SUBWAY RELATED QUESTIONS WHILE SITTING ON A BEDFORD STOOP NEAR THE SOON-TO-OPEN SUBWAY SANDWICH RESTRAUNT. AS THE TWO SAT AND DELIBERATED, AN AMAZING LITTLE PIECE OF VISUAL ACTIVISM SUDDENLY CAUGHT THEIR EYE- SOMEONE HAD MADE A STICKER APPROPRIATING THE SUBWAY LOGO AND CHANGING IT TO SAY "SUBMIT." THEY HAD STUCK IT ON THE NEARBY LIGHT POST."WOW, THAT'S PRETTY DURN CLEVER" RANDALL CITED AS EVE SAT VERKLEMPT. "I WONDER WHO THOSE PEOPLE ARE THAT DID THAT...?"

BACK TO THE MISSION AT HAND THEY ROUNDED UP THEIR QUESTIONS AND HEADED OVER TO SUBWAY TO PERFORM AN INTERVIEW WITH THE FRANCHISE OWNER HIMSELF...YOU CAN SEE INTERVIEW HERE
